Interesting article detailing 2012 PISA assessment. As expected, US is not doing very well. Special emphasis has been on Math and we ranked 26th among 34 countries. The weakness is lack of proper understanding when facing with real word problems and how Math can be applied as the right tool to approach such problems.
Good news is common core standards is, to some extent, addressing this. It takes time, proper planning and consistent implementation.
